Privacy Policy
Last updated 12 October 2026
Roost: Owl Logic Puzzle is made by Zoran Turk, an individual developer in Croatia. This policy explains what happens to your information when you play Roost and when you visit this website.
The short version
- Roost is free and shows ads from Google AdMob. To show them, AdMob collects some information about your device and the ads you see.
- Roost never asks to track you, so the ads don't use your device's advertising identifier.
- In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Roost asks for your consent before ads use your personal data.
- A one-time Remove Ads purchase turns the ads off, and AdMob's data collection with them.
- If you're signed in to Game Center, Roost sends Apple your achievements. Everything else, including your progress, stays on your device.
Who is responsible
The controller of the personal data described here, under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is Zoran Turk, Croatia. You can reach me at roostpuzzle@outlook.com.
Google and Apple, whose services Roost uses, decide for themselves how they use the data they receive, under their own privacy policies. Each section below says which of them is involved.
Ads
Roost shows ads served by Google AdMob, a service of Google Ireland Limited if you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, and of Google LLC elsewhere. The AdMob code in Roost sends what it collects directly to Google. I see only totals, such as how many ads were shown in each country, never anything about you.
What AdMob collects
To choose ads, measure how they perform and prevent fraud, AdMob collects:
- your IP address, from which an approximate location is worked out
- information about your device and Roost, such as the device model, iOS version, language and app version
- Apple's identifier for vendors: an identifier your device gives Roost, different for every developer, and not the advertising identifier
- the ads you were shown, and whether you tapped them
- crash and performance data about the ads
Google describes how it uses information from apps that show its ads at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and its own privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
No tracking
Roost never shows Apple's prompt asking to track you, so neither Roost nor AdMob can read your device's advertising identifier. Nothing about you is combined with data from other companies' apps or websites to target ads. The ads you see are chosen from things like the app, your approximate location and your device, not from a profile of you built across other apps and websites.
Consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, Roost shows Google's consent form before it shows any ads. If you agree, AdMob may store and read information on your device and use your personal data for ads, as the form describes. If you don't, Roost still works in full, and you see ads that don't use your personal data to choose them. Where you consent, the legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can change your choice at any time under Privacy & data in Roost's Settings.
Where you haven't been asked for consent, or have declined it, the legal basis for showing ads is my legitimate interest in funding Roost through advertising while keeping it free to play (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Removing the ads
A one-time Remove Ads purchase turns off ads for good. From then on, Roost doesn't start AdMob, so AdMob collects nothing from your device. The purchase also applies on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account, through Restore purchases in Settings.
Game Center
Roost reports its achievements to Apple's Game Center: one for each owl you find, and one for each chapter, showing how far through it you are. It does this only while you're signed in to Game Center, and it first offers sign-in once you've solved your first puzzle. Roost has no leaderboards.
Your achievements are kept by Apple, tied to your Game Center account, and appear on your Game Center profile. Apple handles them under its own privacy policy, at apple.com/legal/privacy. I don't receive them. Roost uses nothing else from your Game Center account, such as your name or your friends.
You can play without signing in, and sign out at any time in your device's Settings › Game Center. Reset all progress in Roost starts your save over but leaves achievements you've already earned in Game Center.
What stays on your device
Roost saves your progress (the puzzles you've solved, your best times and move counts, the owls you've found and your streak) and your settings in the app's own storage on your device. None of it is sent to me or to anyone else. Roost has no account of its own.
Deleting Roost deletes this data, and Reset all progress in Settings clears it. If you back up your device to iCloud or a computer, the backup includes it, as it does other apps' data.
Purchases
The Remove Ads purchase is made through the App Store. Apple handles the payment, and Roost learns only whether you've bought it, never your name or payment details.
Statistics from Apple
If you've turned on Share With App Developers in your device's settings, Apple shares crash reports and usage statistics with developers, in a form that doesn't identify you. You can turn this off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
This website
This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. To deliver the pages and protect them from abuse, Cloudflare processes technical data about each visit, such as your IP address, your browser and the page you asked for. Cloudflare does this as my processor, under its data processing terms. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in running a working, secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics, tracking or ads. Its fonts and images are served from the site itself, not from third parties.
If you email me
I receive your email address and whatever you write, and I use them only to answer you and to fix what you report. I keep the conversation for as long as that takes and delete it if you ask. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in answering you (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Data outside the EU
Google and Cloudflare may process data in the United States and other countries outside the EU. Both are certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission recognises as protecting data transferred to the United States. Apple explains how it protects data it transfers in its own privacy policy.
Children
Roost is made for a general audience and isn't directed at children under 13. I don't knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child's data has reached me, write to me and I'll delete it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, and the UK GDPR if you are in the UK, you have the right to access the personal data held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its use, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting what happened before. You can object at any time to the use of your data for advertising.
The data AdMob collects is held by Google, and your achievements by Apple; I can't see or change either. To use your rights over them, contact Google as its privacy policy describes (policies.google.com/privacy), or Apple at apple.com/legal/privacy/contact. For anything else, write to me.
You can also complain to a data protection authority: in Croatia, the Agencija za zaštitu osobnih podataka (azop.hr), or the authority where you live or work.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date at the top. A change to what the app collects will be posted before the version that brings it is released.
