Common questions
How do I play?
Every board is a grid split into colored areas. Place one owl in every row, every column and every color, and keep them apart: no two owls may touch, not even at the corners. Tap a cell to cross it out, and press and hold to place an owl.
I'm stuck. Is there a way forward?
Always. Every puzzle has exactly one solution, and every one can be reached by reasoning alone, so there is never a point where you have to guess. Tap Hint and Roost shows you the next step and the reason for it, not just the cell.
How do I find the owls?
Two owls are hidden in every chapter, one halfway through and one at its end. Solve those puzzles to find them. Each one you find comes to roost in the clearing on the Roost tab.
Where is my progress saved?
On your device. Roost has no account and no cloud sync, so deleting it deletes your progress. A backup of your device to iCloud or a computer includes it, as it does other apps' data. If you're signed in to Game Center, your achievements are kept there too, and stay even if you delete Roost.
Can I turn off the ads?
Yes. A one-time Remove Ads purchase turns them off for good. On another device signed in to the same Apple Account, tap Restore purchases in Settings to bring it across.
How do I start over?
In Settings, choose Reset all progress. It clears every puzzle you've solved, every owl you've found and your streak, and it can't be undone.
Which devices does Roost run on?
iPhone and iPad with iOS 15 or later, including iPhone Duo. Roost is laid out for each: iPad in any orientation, and iPhone Duo open or closed.
